Anthony Tommasini, New York Times, 6 December 2002
The Canadian bass-baritone Gerald Finley came to wide attention after his acclaimed portrayal of Mozart's Figaro at the Glyndebourne Festival in 1994. Since then he has continued to win praise in opera and the recital stage for his warm, secure voice and unmannered musicianship. For his recital with the pianist Julius Drake on Sunday at Alice Tully Hall, Mr. Finley's only New York appearance of the season, he will perform an interesting program of songs by Vaughan Williams, Britten, Duparc, Barber, Noël Coward and Mark-Anthony Turnage, who composed the opera ''The Silver Tassie,'' in which Mr. Finley starred at its premiere two years ago at the English National Opera.
